23 March – 2 April
After a relatively non-rolly night in South West rocks we headed off north to Coffs in calm sunny conditions with a light breeze from behind. Pretty perfect conditions, and we reached Coffs harbour in the afternoon where we stopped in the marina. The weather was not to last unfortunately.
Good days if you’re a duck!
Although the aftermath of the cyclone Alfred had disappeared, there was now a new “major rain event” hitting QLD and northern NSW. Several hundred millimeters fell during our time here, and we look forward to some sunny days again. The snorkling will have to wait for better days, however, we did spot a couple of Turtles near the boardwalk, and also saw some Stingrays jumping out of the water (not sure why they do that?)
Matilda, Platon and Saoirse
We had the great fortune of meeting up with three other Swedish boats in Coffs. Great to hear their stories and experiences of sailing all the way from Sweden. Many burgers and bears were had at “The Attitude”.
Muttonbird Island
Next to the Coffs marina is this amazing island with thousands of nesting Muttonbirds (Shearwaters). We heard the chicks chirping, but they were hard to spot as they were hiding for predator birds also circling the island.
Roadtrip to Sydney
With all the raining going on it was a great opportunity to hire a car and drive the 530km to Sydney to see family there.
