Leaving Sydney

22-24 February 2025

After a nice breakfast with Oliver at Le Coq and Fish Saturday morning, we wandered down to the Wondakiah marina, to cast off. This marina has been very good for us, conveniently located 15min walk from home, although we won’t miss all the swallows who have made our boat their favourite toilet.

On our way to Middle Harbour Yacht Club, we dropped anchor at Castle Rock beach nearby and had a great swim. Once at the club we had friends come over for a Bon Voyage and then we prepared for the Barefoot Ball, the annual top social event at the club. A beautiful evening to chat with fellow sailors and dance on the beach. Much fun as always, before we got to bed in the early hours of Sunday.

Martyn and Anna on Flo treated us to a great Sunday brunch on their catamaran Flo. The day continued with saying farewells to friends and family. Fred, Erin and Felix joined us for an afternoon swim at the beach followed by take-away dinner on RaRa. Felix was in great form and thoroughly enjoyed both the swim and being on the boat. It was an early night for us being all partied out by that time.

Monday morning we did the final preparations, said farewell to Oliver and left at 10am for the short trip to The Basin in Pittwater. We had a nice 18-20 kn breeze from behind and reached our destination in only 4 hours.

In our strive to get some exercise we went for a walk around the Basin, met up with some Wallabies (small kangaroos) and conquered a steep trail up the hill.

Tomorrow will be a slightly longer sail up to Port Stephens and we’ll set off early.

If you want to follow us then this blog is a good starting point, we also keep the app/website noforeignland.com up to date – just search for RaRa and you can follow us. AIS tracking, like e.g. Marine Traffic should also work (most of the time).
