Port Stephens, Day 7 – 8

At Soldiers point marina

Day 7: 1 January 2021: A rainy start to the day. We decided to head off to Soldiers point to fill up on water. The rain increased as we had just left Fame Cove and the trip across got very wet. Stopped at the T-arm and filled up with water and charged the batteries (solar panels not producing much in heavy rains). Treated ourselves to a lovely lunch at the Point restaurant at the marina.

After lunch we motored past Soldiers Point to check if we could anchor outside Lemon Tree passage, as I would like to check this little town out. The marina there is probably too shallow to get to for us. The possible anchorage outside was too wild and we decided to head back north again.

Crossed the bay and anchored in North Arm cove this time, found a lovely and calm anchorage, The rain did not let up until well into the night and we did our best to try and dry the wet weather gear. Happy to have the infill over the cockpit.

Day 8: 2/1 Saturday. After breakfast the rain cleared and Niclas had a swim around the boat to give her a brush off. After a lovely lunch in the cockpit we headed off on motor back east. Anchored outside Jimmy’s beach as we would like to be closer to the entrance as the plan is to head of south tomorrow and we want to have an early start.

Saw dolphins and had dinner onboard in the sunshine. The swell started rolling in pretty bad and we decided to swap Anchorage to the other side of the bay, in Shoal Bay. Dolphins swam with us as we headed off.

Crossing south to Shoal bay

Arrived to a nice and shallow anchorage, 2.5 m, as the sun set. A lot less swell on this side and we settled down for the night.
