Sailing North, Day 3; Passage

Day 3, 28/12: Sailing to Port Stephens:

Leaving Broken bay

We left at 07.00 from Iron ladder beach and headed around the corner east bound. Not much wind so we motored at 6 knots with the main sail up for stability. Sun was shining and it was a comfortable run.

Sydney CBD from a distance

At about 11 the wind picked up and we hoisted the head sail and started sailing but the wind died down and we motored again for a while with the mainsail up.

After lunch, at 1 pm, we managed to shut the engine off and put the sails up and make 6-7.5 knots and had a a great sail. The predicted strong southerly wind did not come to us, but we saw the fog that comes with the wind and we where surrounded by it. Felt like we where in a bubble with the sun shining on us. Great big tankers moored outside Newcastle kept coming in and out of view.

Arrived at Point Stephen, our way point for the day, at 16.30 after 66 nm. Made our way into Port Stephens and anchored in Salamander bay in a strong southerly and outgoing current but the anchor is great and we got a strong hold. Anchored at 18.30.
