15-16 August 2020, Weekend on Sydney Harbour

15/8, Saturday: Forecast was for 15 knots and sunshine and we left MHYC at 10.30. Sailed out through the heads towards the east. Wind picked up and we had gusting 25 knots. Sailed back in to the harbour and then the wind picked up, gusting up to 28 knots. Sailed with little sails up into Taylor bay where we anchored in shelter for lunch. Decided to change location for the night as the wind was predicted to be W overnight.

As the mooring at Chowder bay was free we stayed there for the night.

Early sunrise from Chowder Bay – the moon, stars and rising sun

Sunday, 16/8: Oliver picked up Matias from the beach in the morning. We then set sails and sailed out through the heads, heading north. The predicted wind was for less than 5 knots but we got 15 gusting up to 25 then steady 25 with gusts of 30. Had a great day sailing with the boys.

Sailed back in to the harbour for lunch and fishing. Anchored in Obelisk bay, which was lovely and sheltered. After a while the wind changed direction and in combination with the rise turning (and probably too short chain out) we started dragging, with quite some speed. This was discovered as we got a little too close to the rocks…All well, engine started and we got the anchor up and headed back into the marina without anything happening.
