4-7 October 2019

4 Oct: Niclas and Sanna arrived on the boat Friday evening and slept in the mooring at MHYC. Oliver is away with friends on a farm stay.

Movie night in the boat

5 Oct: Breakfast at MHYC, it was raining outside, and we met members of the MHYC Cruising division and talked to them. They invited us to join them for sail away to Pittwater. We would like to spend this first long weekend on the boat just the two of us but said we would keep in touch. Left at 10 and set sails as soon as we passed Balmoral. Wind S – SE, 10-15 knots and we had a slow but lovely sail up to Pittwater past the Northern Beaches. It rained for the first hours and then stopped.

Saw Dolphins and Wales playing together outside Whale Beach. Entered Pittwater at 15.00 and then took the sails down at 15.40 wind 1 knot. Motored for another hour to get to the MHYC mooring in Americas Bay. A lovely bay with around 100 boats moored up. No internet or mobile connection.

06 Oct: After breakfast we left the mooring and set sails and sailed east towards the ocean. After an hour we met up with the cruising division who where sailing west to Yeomans Bay. We sailed alongside with ‘Tonic’. Tried to anchor in Yeomans Bay unsuccessfully, it was 20 metres deep and our anchor chain had a rusted knot on it – needs to be fixed before we anchor. Members of the cruising division offered us to moor up with them for lunch. We had lunch with the Cruising division at Cottage Point. We then motored east towards Pittwater and into the Basin where we moored on another MHYC mooring. Enjoyed a beautiful sunset before dinner.

07 Oct: Bank Holiday today. We had a very bumpy night and I did not sleep well. There was no wind but waves coming in from the ocean. Left the mooring at 10, set sails and left Pittwater to sail to Port Jackson (Sydney Harbour). Winds 20-25 knots and large waves outside Barronjoey, then S – SE winds around 10-15 knots all the way to North Head. Arrived at North Head at 16.00. Sails came down and we motored in to MHYC. Wind was 2 knots then. Moored at MHYC at 16.30. Oliver was dropped off then and we have some pizza dinner on the boat before pack up and going home to Waverton.
